FAQ

How do you spell Beastmaster Barca?
Steam achievement text uses Beastmaster Barca. You may see Barka elsewhere; the official achievement spelling is Barca with a c.
What does the Stampede achievement require?
Stampede: Cause Beastmaster Barca to be trampled to death by the Rhino. Featherweight does not document the trigger steps in store or news text we read.
Which act is Beastmaster Barca in?
Carthage, Act 1, per the boss table aligned with Can't Stand The Heat (survive Carthage) and Featherweight announcements.
Does this page include Barca HP or weaknesses?
No. Official screenshots show a boss bar labeled BEASTMASTER BARCA but no numeric HP in readable text. Weaknesses and phases are not disclosed.
What should I read after Barca?
Follow the act order on all bosses, then Act 2 Goliath. Beginners should keep the hub page open for chain and night systems between fights.

Who is Beastmaster Barca in Chained Beasts?

Beastmaster Barca is the Act 1 (Carthage) boss confirmed in Steam achievement text and official combat screenshots. Featherweight presents him mounted on a rhino, charging from arena gates with radial impact marks on sand floors. Store-era demo copy described defeating a rhino-riding first boss after five battles, but the full nine-battle, three-act structure in launch news does not map demo fight counts to retail order—so we do not claim “Barca is fight X of Y” on 1.0.

You may see “Barka” or “Grandmaster Barka” on older fan sites; the achievement string Stampede spells the name Barca. We follow achievement spelling.

For act-wide context, see all bosses and the beginner guide. Act 2’s agility boss is Goliath.

What do official screenshots show?

The sand-arena Steam screenshot displays a top-center boss bar reading BEASTMASTER BARCA flanked by purple skull icons, chained players (including labels such as P1 and B1), a segmented progress bar in the top-left corner ending in a boss emblem, and the rhino mount mid-charge across warm Carthage sand (as shown in the official Steam store screenshots; the release build may differ). Numeric HP values are not legible in the public screenshot we use—only the uppercase name bar is verified. Along the bottom edge of the sand arena, the spectator strip appears in magenta with small icon bubbles rising above the crowd.

A separate cinematic render from the official Gameplay Trailer shows an armored rhino wearing metal plating and purple round shields breaking through a stone gate. That frame has no Beastmaster Barca nameplate; we treat it as a cutscene asset, not proof of arena layout or Barca’s phase script.

How does the Rhino mount relate to the playable Rhino Beast?

One common point of confusion for new players is the difference between Beastmaster Barca’s rhino mount in Act 1 and the playable Rhino gladiator Beast:

  • In the original November 2025 Carthage demo, the rhino appeared only as part of the first boss encounter with Beastmaster Barca.
  • In the May 29, 2026 Steam announcement (“The Updated Chained Beasts Demo is LIVE!”), Featherweight added Rhino and Ibex as two new playable Beasts, joining Lion, Eagle, Bear, Panther, Monkey, and Wolf on the eight-character roster (tracked by Free as a Rhino and Bestiary on the all beasts guide).
  • Official announcements do not state whether playing as the Rhino Beast changes anything inside the Beastmaster Barca encounter—treat them as separate game elements unless future patch notes state otherwise.

What does the Stampede achievement tell us?

Official achievement text:

Achievement Requirement (official wording)
Stampede Cause Beastmaster Barca to be trampled to death by the Rhino

Our reading of the wording (not confirmed in-game): the rhino’s charge or movement can kill Barca himself, but Featherweight does not explain dismount conditions, positioning, timing, or friendly-fire rules in the sources we read. We therefore do not publish a cheese strategy—only the goal text for hunters tracking achievements.

Two other Carthage and boss achievements sit alongside Stampede during an Act 1 run:

  • Who’s The Boss (Kill a Boss within 10 seconds of first damaging them) — the universal speed-kill trophy across all boss fights.
  • Untouchable (Complete Carthage without taking any damage) — the flawless Act 1 challenge, which shares its name with the Untouchable skill mentioned in store copy (granting 6 seconds of invulnerability after an execution). Whether the flawless Carthage achievement includes the Beastmaster Barca fight is part of surviving Act 1 (Can’t Stand The Heat).

What is not disclosed about this fight?

The following remain not disclosed in the sources we read:

  • Boss HP, armor, stagger, or phase transitions
  • Exact battle index inside Act 1 for retail 1.0 (demo copy said five battles to the first boss; launch news states nine battles across three acts without mapping which battle number is Barca)
  • Guaranteed arena modifiers or merchant items for Carthage
  • Whether the rhino can be targeted separately with independent health or whether nicknames like “Big Bertha” seen on unofficial sites ever appear in-game (they do not appear in official Steam sources)

When Featherweight posts patch notes or UI reveals, this page will add dated tables—not speculation.

How does Barca fit the wider run?

Surviving Carthage unlocks the progression achievement Can’t Stand The Heat (Survive Carthage) and sends your squad north into Act 2 Germania to face Goliath, followed by Act 3 Rome against Praefectus & the Siege. Nights between battles roll afflictions, Trainer levels, skills, and Merchant stock—see afflictions and Trainer, crowd favorite and scoring, and merchant items. Co-op spacing matters because the chain wraps pillars and obstacles when teammates pull in opposite directions; co-op and multiplayer covers party sizes and chain achievements (Pop!, Trip Master, and Formation Breaker) shown in official materials.
