FAQ

What are the default gamepad controls in Chained Beasts?
The in-game tutorial overlay lists Move (left stick), Attack (Y on Xbox / X on PlayStation layout shown), Throw (R/RB), Block (B/LB), Dash (A), and Interact (X). Labels vary by controller profile; Featherweight has not published a full rebind table in store fields we read (2026-10-17).
Can I use keyboard for local co-op without a gamepad?
Steam minimum requirements state at least one gamepad is required for same-screen co-op when mixing keyboard and controller players. Full keyboard binding tables are not disclosed in official store text.
How do you trip or squeeze enemies with the chain?
Official achievements name tripping (Trip Master, Formation Breaker) and squeezing (Pop!). Community footage shows pulling the tether taut to clothesline foes and tightening links around targets—exact button prompts for a dedicated “chain attack” are not documented separately from movement and spacing.
Do thrown weapons break, and how does durability work?
Merchant cards in official screenshots list arena weapons with durability counts (for example “4 durability” on bows and maces). Throws are encouraged in tutorial dialogue; losing your only weapon without a backup leaves you helpless—store copy recommends carrying a spare.
How do you get unwrapped when the chain catches a pillar?
Store guidance warns poor coordination leaves gladiators wrapped around pillars. Tutorial and tip videos show deliberate pillar lassos for positioning; recovery is a teamwork spacing problem—move partners in opposite directions and dash when the chain slackens. Featherweight has not published step-by-step unwrap controls.

What are the default controller inputs?

Steam lists full controller support with Gamepad Recommended. The opening training yard shows an on-screen Controls legend while a partner calls out throw-and-block drills—use that overlay as your live reference until Featherweight publishes a standalone binding sheet.

Action As shown in tutorial overlay Notes
Move Left stick Camera and facing follow movement in third-person arenas
Attack Y (Xbox layout) / X (PlayStation-style label on overlay) Melee swings deplete stamina on sustained strings
Dash / Dodge A Short burst to reposition while chained
Block / Parry B / LB Partner drill text: “Now throw it at me, I’ll block it.”
Throw weapon / limb R / RB Tied to Weapon Master-style variety and crowd scoring prompts
Interact / Execute X Use on downed foes and arena props when prompted

How does stamina work in combat?

The tutorial sends you against straw training dummies ringed in red target markers while a yellow stamina bar drains above your gladiator. The on-screen prompt reads “Watch your stamina!”—empty stamina means you cannot spam attack or dash until it refills.

Treat stamina like a shared rhythm meter in co-op: one player burning out during a block-and-throw drill leaves the partner blocking alone. Between fights, afflictions such as Weak Shoulder I (reduced throw distance in official skill text) can change how far you can afford to chase throws—see afflictions and Trainer for night-screen context.

How do you trip and squeeze with the chain?

The iron chain is a weapon, not a leash. Verified achievement text confirms tripping (Trip Master, Formation Breaker) and squeezing (Pop!). In arena footage, teams pull the chain taut to clothesline incoming enemies near floor grates and scattered weapons, or tighten slack to pin foes between gladiators.

Spacing skills matter for boss arenas with pillars—all bosses describes named encounters without HP tables. Coordinate who holds position and who dashes wide so the tether stays a trip line instead of a tangle.

How do thrown weapons and durability work?

Store copy and tutorial bark lines push variety: the Owner NPC scolds slow, repetitive survival—“Throw your weapon!”—while the Crowd Favor card tracks Variety, Tempo, and Carnage. Throws are therefore both combat and scoring tools, not last-resort gimmicks.

Official merchant screenshots show durability on arena weapons (for example bows and maces with 4 durability). After you throw a primary weapon, swap to a backup or pick up arena drops before the next wave. Shopping passives that scatter more weapons appear on the merchant items page.

Which Trainer skills boost throws and trips?

On Night phases, the Choose Your Skill Trainer menu offers swap-or-learn cards. One illustrated night shows Concussive Strength (stun duration +50%), Strong Arm (+50% throw damage), and Overwhelming Assault (crits have a 50% chance to trip/strip enemies)—wording taken from the visible card text in walkthrough footage; your offered pool will vary by run.

Pair Strong Arm with deliberate throw drills from the training yard, and Overwhelming Assault with crit gear from the merchant when you can afford it. Track long-term throw goals via the achievements guide entries Gold Medal and Weapon Master.

How do you unwrap from arena pillars?

Official store text warns that bad teamwork leaves the squad wrapped around pillars, stalling movement for everyone chained together. Advanced footage shows intentional pillar lassos—wrapping the chain around a central stone column to swing arc or block a lane—followed by partners walking the chain off the corner when the fight shifts.

Featherweight has not disclosed a dedicated “unwrap” button. Practical recovery: call direction, dash when slack appears, and avoid both gladiators circling the same column. Deeper crowd-pressure tactics that force wide movement live on crowd favorite and scoring.

Chained Beasts — 10 Advanced Tips & Chain Combat Walkthrough

Illustrated controls and chain combat walkthrough

Six timestamped frames from the community tips video, matched to training-yard controls, stamina drills, chain trips, pillar lassos, crowd scoring pressure, and Trainer throw skills.

  1. 1 Read the training-yard control overlay

    02:45 ↗

Use the left-hand Controls panel while a partner asks for a thrown weapon into their shield. Block on B/LB, throw on R/RB, and attack on Y/X before you enter ranked nights.

  2. 2 Burn stamina on Roman training dummies

    01:00 ↗

Clear the straw dummies inside the red rings while watching the yellow stamina bar. Pause attacks briefly to refill before you dash across the chain radius.

Two chained gladiators strike straw training dummies surrounded by red target rings while a yellow stamina bar depletes above the player under the watch-your-stamina prompt.

  3. 3 Clothesline enemies with a taut chain

    03:45 ↗

In the circular sand pit, pull sideways tension so the tether trips clustered enemies near grates and dropped weapons. This mirrors achievement language for tripping formations.

  4. 4 Lasso a pillar to steer the fight

    12:30 ↗

Wrap the chain around a central stone pillar when you need to block a lane or swing arc—then coordinate walking the chain off the column before the squad gets pinned.

  5. 5 Answer crowd pressure to throw

    04:15 ↗

When the Owner demands speed and variety, check your Crowd Favor card—low Variety scores mean it is time to throw, swap weapons, and mix executions—not hide behind passive blocks.

  6. 6 Pick Trainer skills for throws and trips

    06:00 ↗

On the Choose Your Skill screen, compare Strong Arm throw damage, Concussive Strength stun duration, and Overwhelming Assault crit trip chance before you lock a night pick.
